Effective date: October 18, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how HouseParty (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the HouseParty mobile application and related services (the “Service”). HouseParty lets people create events, publish event details and descriptions, and discover or request to join events.
Before publishing: Replace the contact placeholder at the end and make sure this policy accurately describes the services, permissions, analytics, authentication providers, and data practices used by your released app. Remove any section that does not apply and add any collection your app actually performs.
1. Information We May Collect
Depending on the features you use and how the app is configured, we may collect the following categories of information:
- Account information: information such as your name, email address, profile photo, and authentication identifier when you create an account or sign in, including through Google Sign-In if enabled.
- Profile and user content: profile details and content you choose to submit, such as event titles, descriptions, dates, times, venue details, photos, attendee information, and messages or other content if those features are available.
- Event and participation information: events you create, view, join, request to join, save, or otherwise interact with, to the extent these features are provided.
- Location information: approximate or precise location only if the app requests location permission and you grant it, or if you voluntarily enter a location in an event or profile. You can manage device location permissions in your device settings.
- Technical and usage information: app version, device and operating-system information, diagnostic logs, crash reports, and interaction data if collected by the app or its service providers.
- Support communications: information you provide when you contact us for help or report a problem.
Please do not post sensitive personal information in public event descriptions or other areas where other users may see it.
2. How We Use Information
We may use information, as applicable, to:
- create and manage accounts and authenticate users;
- create, display, organize, and manage events;
- help users discover events and manage participation or join requests;
- show profile and event details to other users according to the app’s features and settings;
- operate, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service;
- respond to support requests and communicate important service updates;
- detect abuse, fraud, spam, security incidents, or violations of our rules; and
- comply with applicable legal obligations.
3. What Other Users Can See
Information you publish in an event or profile may be visible to other HouseParty users, depending on the app’s design and settings. For example, an event’s title, description, time, location, host profile, and participation details may be shown to users who can access that event. Do not include information in an event listing unless you are comfortable sharing it with the audience that can view it.
If the app supports private events or restricted attendance, those controls may limit visibility, but no online service can guarantee that recipients will not copy or share information they can access.
4. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information in these circumstances:
- With other users: as needed to provide profiles, event listings, hosting, and participation features you choose to use.
- Service providers: to vendors that help operate the Service, such as authentication, hosting, databases, file storage, crash reporting, or analytics providers, if used. They may process information only as needed to provide their services under applicable arrangements.
- Safety and legal reasons: where reasonably necessary to enforce our terms, protect users or the public, investigate suspected misuse, or comply with valid legal process.
- Business changes: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or transfer of some or all of our business, subject to appropriate protections.
- At your direction: when you ask us to share information or use a feature that makes information available to others.
5. Third-Party Services
The Service may rely on third-party services, such as Google Sign-In or cloud hosting, if configured in the app. Those providers may process information under their own privacy policies. Please review the policies of any third-party service you use. This policy does not govern independent third-party websites or services.
6. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain account and event records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, protect the Service, and meet legal obligations. Retention periods depend on the type of information and how it is used. When information is no longer needed, we will take reasonable steps to delete it or de-identify it, subject to applicable law and legitimate operational needs.
7. Your Choices and Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live and the laws that apply, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of certain personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing.
- You can review and update profile details through available in-app controls.
- You can manage device permissions, including location, through your device settings.
- You can contact us to ask about access, correction, deletion, or other privacy requests.
- If account deletion is offered in the app, use that feature to submit a deletion request. Otherwise, contact us using the details below.
We may need to verify your identity before completing a request and may retain certain information where permitted or required by law.
8. Children's Privacy
HouseParty is not intended for children who are below the minimum age required to use the Service under applicable law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us improperly, contact us so we can review the situation and take appropriate action.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please protect your account credentials and notify us if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.
10. International Processing
Your information may be processed or stored in countries other than the country where you live, depending on where our infrastructure and service providers operate. Where required, we will use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the effective date above. If a change requires additional notice under applicable law, we will provide it as required.
